The HO Port of Catoosa and SKOL Owasso Yard Combined Layout simulates the "Last Mile" movement of railcars destined to locations in Owasso Oklahoma and the surrounding area. Operations include customers receiving car service at Owasso proper, Cherokee Industrial Park (west of Owasso), Green Hill Materials/Eagle Ready Mix (southeast of Owasso) and the Port of Catoosa Industrial Park. Car routing is by Car Cards/Way Bills. Track plans, car types, car movements and industries served are all based on actual traffic and served locations in the area. Car movements are based on observed and RR employee supplied information. We wish to gratefully thank our advisors and friends for helping bring our layout to life.

Operators will be receiving inbound trains, sorting cars for locations on the layout and delivering cars to customers in those locations. Sessions will run approximately 3 hours with a short break half way through. The layout will accommodate 6 operators.

Trains originate from the following railroads:

BNSF - The actual BNSF Port Turn originates from Cherokee Yard in Tulsa. The BNSF train is staged just outside the room for the Port of Catoosa. It is shoved into the interchange and back out again as done by the BNSF in IRL. It will interchange on the west side of the Port of Catoosa.

SKOL - Trains will originate in Kansas (north) and will proceed to Owasso Yard.
Train 108 - Early turn to Port of Catoosa from Owasso, will also have cars going to Green Hill/Eagle Ready Mix
Train 205 - Haulage (originates in Cherryvale Kansas) arrives Owasso and is drilled for cars for local delivery, to the POC or to continue on to OKC on the SLWC (Stillwater Central Railroad).
Train 205 will also return to Kansas with cars destined to points north of Oklahoma.

SLWC - Trains will originate either in Tulsa with traffic from UP or west of Tulsa as far away as Oklahoma City.
Train 405 - SLWC northbound haulage, will arrive in Owasso from the south. It will swap cars for Owasso area or points further north in Kansas. It will pick up cars destined for Tulsa and Points west.
Train 407 - SLWC southbound haulage, originates in Owasso going south to Tulsa and points west.

Crew Briefing (This Document)

Order of Trains:

At the start of the session, participants will work as 2-man crews for POCR, SKOL and BNSF. Crews will be positioned in the following locations:
West Port Crew - Will act as the crewmembers of the BNSF Port Turn. They will bring the train in from staging and return it to staging after making the interchange at the port. This crew will then wait the arrival and departure of #108 SKOL Port Turn before beginning their work on the east side of the Port.
East Port Crew - The East Port Crew will be pulling outbound cars from the designated industries adjacent to the Navigation Channel. These cars will be spotted on the SKOL Interchange Track on the East side of Gavilon Grain East Elevator for pick up by the #108 Port Turn.
SKOL RR Crew - Will assemble Train 108 at Owasso and deliver the early turn cars to the SKOL Interchange at the Port and pick up the morning's outbound cars. They will return to Owasso and sort the cars for SKOL or SLWC cars as needed. This turn should take 40 minutes plus to complete.
BNSF train Will come from staging and will shove its delivering cars into the Port BNSF interchange. The crew will work with all crew members riding the train into the port. The conductor can ride the rear of the train to allow him to dismount to align turnouts/ throw derails as needed. There is a shoving platform available if desired. The train will complete its interchange of cars and then reverse (shove) back out to staging. Once the train has returned to staging, the BNSF crew will move to the port and begin the roles of Port employees picking up outbound cars and delivering inbound cars. Preference should be given to pulling outbound BNSF cars in order to allow SKOL 108 to complete its interchange. This train should arrive and depart ahead of the SKOL #108 Port Turn. After the arrival and departure of 108, the Port crews are to begin pulling all cars for delivery to their respective interchange tracks. Hint: BNSF should shove down the empty interchange track past Keystone Road then pull in behind the outbound cut of cars and with the locomotives in the middle, position the inbound cars on the interchange. The inbound cars can extend across Bird Creek bridge as needed.
SKOL 108 Port Turn As the BNSF crew is doing their interchange the SKOL crew will begin assembling their train for the early turn. This train can depart for the port once it has been assembled. Note that any cars destined for Green Hill or Eagle should be at the head end of the train. Also, as the SKOL does IRL, the conductor may travel ahead of the train to the port to align turnouts, throw derails as needed. He will then travel to meet the train at Green Hill to aid ops there as well. This train may have cars to deliver to Green Hill Materials on the return trip from the port. These should be at the head of the train on the return. The train shall stop before crossing Hwy 266 and cut-off the Green Hill cars. It will proceed across Hwy 266 with those cars and make the delivery (under no circumstance should Hwy 266 be blocked longer than crossing it). Making the cut before going through CP Wintle is suggested. Upon return to Owasso, the engine is cut off and run around the train. Then the train is shoved to the north end of Track 2 for temporary storage. The engine can be parked per the engineer's discretion. Train 108 will be drilled along with 205.
SKOL 205 Haulage & Port Turn At the appropriate time as decided by Dispatch Train 205 will arrive on track 1 at Owasso from Staging. The engineer and conductor will work together to drill the inbound cars of both 108 and 205 and sort for local crew switching and cars destined for TPA. It is up to the crew to decide if they want to complete the local deliveries first or run the port turn. The crew then completes their tasks. Consideration should be given to blocking the train to head back north to Kansas or south to Tulsa and points west.
SLWC Transfer Train the Stillwater Central Owasso Transfer train will arrive from the south with cars going either to local Owasso delivery or will be added to the SKOL 205 Northbound Haulage train. Local delivery cars can be delivered or set in Owasso yard by the next shift, depending on time available.
